I did a few little pieces of video for a friend’s Indian dance recital. Arul Ramiah is a lawyer who rediscovered Bharatanatyam, the classical Indian dance form when she took lessons from a guru in Chennai, India. In that process, she also re-encountered herself.
Dispel all notions of a typical Indian dance recital. Abhinaya, My Journey of Return combines dance, performance and b&w photographs by Ken Seet to tell the story of Arul’s break with, withdrawal and return to tradition.
